Position Summary:
The Manager is responsible for facilitating day to day patient care related activities within the Medicine and Stroke Departments at GGH. They provide daily direction to unit personnel to provide high quality, safe, evidence-based care in partnership with the patient and families and in keeping with the vision, mission and values of GGH. In collaboration with the Director, they implement initiatives that align with departmental and strategic goals and objectives of the organization.
The Manager, in collaboration with the Director, ensures they provide an environment that supports and advances professional practice, and leads clinical staff in implementing evidence-based practices that are sensitive to limited resources within a patient centred care philosophy. They serve as role model for professional and organizational core competencies and support quality patient-care outcomes.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Registered Healthcare Professional (preferably Nursing)
- Bachelor's Degree in a health related field
- Master’s degree in a health related field preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills and responsibilities, with 2 years formal management experience
- Minimum of 5 years of acute care clinical experience.
- Membership in relevant professional organization(s).
- Experience with guiding staff experiencing performance and/or attendance problems.
- Experience with Lean process improvement methodologies .
- Demonstrate leadership with respect to enhancing patient and staff safety.
- Demonstrate leadership to support patient experience and satisfaction.
- Demonstrated excellence interpersonal communication, coaching, mentoring and team building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate positive interactions among all members of the health care team.
- Proven analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills in stressful, complex clinical and emotional situations.
- Strong change management skills, and demonstrated success in facilitating department level change initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound and effective decisions.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development.
- Ability to analyze research and implement evidence-based practice into Policy and Procedure development and clinical practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge of program planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Demonstrated skills in building collaborative relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to execute strategies to maintain a balanced financial position.
- Demonstrates knowledge in clinical practice in the care of Medicine patients; including, patients with stroke, COPD, CHF, and the care of complex medical and geriatric patients.
- Experience with patient flow within the medicine program.
